Robbie Brookside

Without question Robbie Brookside is one of the most respected and decorated figures on the European Wrestling scene. Born in Liverpool in 1966 “The Wildcat” made his professional debut in 1984 and learned his trade from some of the very best that the industry in his native land had to offer. By the end of his first decade in the business, Robbie had become widely regarded as one of the most exciting stars in the country and tours overseas rapidly followed. Making frequent trips all over Europe, Japan and the US Robbie’s “Liverpool Lads” tag team with Doc Dean was considered one of the few high points of an industry that was feeling the effects of the loss on national television coverage.

Never one to short change his audience and always ready to defend his profession to the death, in the early 1990’s Robbie decided to make one last cry for help on behalf of the industry with BBC’s “Video Diaries” program. The 60 minute show depicted the post World of Sport industry that remained for the new generation of home grown stars and how uprooting to America was the only real financially viable option left for our domestic talent even if they did not really have as deep a love for the US product. One person who was watching the program that night was a young Alex Shane who recorded the show and watched it back almost a hundred times before entering the business himself. Alex would never forget Robbie’s selfless love for the business he adored and would later go on to found the BWC.

Alex is one of hundreds of UK professionals and fans alike who consider Robbie a true patron saint of the British industry. Having held more titles than it would be possible to list in this brief bio and having made more high profile appearances for world renowned companies than all but a few other domestic stars, Robbie Brookside’s list of respected contacts and friends in high places within the industry is possibly untouched by anyone. His combination of talent at what he does with the morals, values and principles that are so rare to be found in the entertainment industry make him an inspiration for not only his peers but also many of his elders, who feel proud that their support helps raise one of the true beacons of hope for the British wrestling scene. Robbie’s support of the BWC is invaluable for he is truly the voice of wrestling for multiple generations all at once.
